The Medical Office Administration Program will prepare students in multifaceted medical office tasks. Students are taught to prioritize tasks, schedule appointments, process referrals, maintain budgets, understand diagnostic and procedural coding to meet physician and health care provider needs. Students will also learn to complete insurance verification, use electronic health records, understand and comply with HIPAA & HITECH laws. Instruction also focuses on telephone skills, time management, records management, and professional ethics. Computer skills include internet research, word processing, and medical practice software.
Students are also taught to prioritize tasks, schedule appointments, prepare budgets, understand diagnostic and procedural coding, and develop spreadsheets.
The Medical Office Administration program is recognized by the Texas Workforce Investment Council (formerly the Texas Skills Standards Board) which verifies that the knowledge and skill competencies required by industry are included in the curriculum.
Students must earn a minimum grade of ‘C’ in all technical courses in the Recommended Program of Study.
