The Business Office Management Program incorporates the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to succeed in the business world. Topics include calendar control, time management, human relations, filing procedures, telephone etiquette, listening techniques, and oral/written business communications. Computer skills include word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation and e-commerce applications. Students are also taught to prioritize tasks, schedule appointments, prepare budgets and in some offices, business office assistants are responsible for maintaining the company's website or preparing the company's' newsletter.
Graduates are prepared for positions such as human resources assistant, administrative assistant, information technology assistant, office coordinator and executive assistant. These jobs are described as high-demand occupations for Southeast Texas.
The Business Office Assistant Certificate is the first two semesters of the degree.
The general education core courses will transfer to a variety of colleges and universities.
Students must earn a minimum grade of ‘C’ in all technical courses in the Recommended Program of Study.
