The Pharmacy Technician Certificate Program prepares students for an exciting career in the pharmacy healthcare field, providing technical skills, knowledge and clinical applications necessary to work in retail and hospital pharmacy settings. Students gain knowledge and skills through a career-focused curriculum and convenient classes that prepares the student to pass the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam. As a Pharmacy Technology student, you will:
• Learn to read medication orders
• Understand prescription processing
• Prepare medication labels
• Perform inventory functions within the pharmacy setting
• Understand required safety and infection-control policies to protect patients and employees
• Gain practical experience using pharmacy hardware and software
• Ensure patient confidentiality by providing a high level of customer service to pharmaceutical patients in any pharmacy setting
Pharmacy Technician Certificate
If interested a student should apply to Lamar State College-Port Arthur and meet with an Enrollment Service Counselor. A student should plan for a few additional expenses beyond tuition and books. Additional expenses may include: a series of vaccinations as a requirement for clinical rotations, lab/clinical uniform, criminal background check, fingerprinting, CPR through American Heart Association, and drug screening. A CPR class will be made available for students to take on campus once enrolled in the program.
Upon successful completion of the Pharmacy Technician program a student may qualify to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam.
