Financial Aid

The financial aid program at Lamar State College Port Arthur (LSCPA) is intended to provide financial assistance opportunities to all students that qualify and meet eligibility requirements to help them further their educational career.  The Office of Student Financial Aid is located on the 3rd floor of the Student Center. Appointments are available at https://lscpa.craniumcafe.com/group/financial-aid/scheduler.

Types of financial assistance available for students are:

Loans

Direct Stafford Loans, which include subsidized and unsubsidized loans from the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan (Direct Loan) Program, are low-interest loans for eligible students to help cover the cost of higher education. These loans are for eligible students to borrow directly from the U.S. Department of Education (DOE).  The student will repay a Federal Direct Stafford Loan to the U.S. Department of Education.  https://studentaid.gov/understand-aid/types/loans

Scholarships

A wide variety of scholarships and grants are offered to Lamar State College Port Arthur students. Scholarships are generally awarded on the basis of academic achievement, programs of study, or special skills. Scholarships are administered by the Scholarship Coordinator located in the Office of Academic Advising & Retention on the 3rd floor of the Student Center.

Grants

Grants are awarded through the determination of financial need. Grants generally range from $200 to $6895 per academic year.The following grants may be applied for through the Office of Student Financial Aid:

  1. Pell Grant
  2. Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (SEOG)
  3. Texas Public Educational Grant (TPEG)
  4. Texas Educational Opportunity Grant (TEOG)

Short-term Loans

Lamar State College Port Arthur Business Office provides short term loans for students that are in the process of receiving financial aid or make payment arrangements.  Please contact the Business Office for eligibility requirements.

Application Procedure

1.    Complete the online Free Application for Federal Student Aid(FAFSA):

2.   Complete the online Texas Application for State Financial Aid(TASFA):

Application forms can be obtained in the Office of Student Financial Aid in the Student Center Building. However, it is best to do the forms electronically.

 

Awards are determined during the summer for the following academic year. Therefore, priority is given to applications received by the following deadlines:

 

  • Fall semester- apply by April 1st
  • Spring semester - begin applying October1st
  • Summer sessions – begin applying April 1st.

 

Applications received after these dates are on a first-come, first- served basis.

Applicants who have met the April 1st deadline and are unconditionally accepted into the college will be notified of their eligibility during April/May.  Spring applications meeting the October 1st deadline will be notified in late December.
