Music, Associate of Arts Degree
This degree allows a student to complete the Field of Study Curriculum for Music which is the set of lower-division courses that must be applied to the bachelor's degree with a major in Music. The 31 lower-division hours shall be applied to a bachelor's degree with a major in Music. These courses are the courses that all first and second year Music majors take at all two and four year institutions.
Outcomes
1. Demonstrate a beginning understanding of Western European and American music history.
2. Identify names of lines and spaces on treble and bass clefs, all printed note values, foundational music terms, and major key signatures.
3. Demonstrate the ability to play the piano at a mid-level proficiency.
4. Garner a basic understanding of the music education profession.
5. Demonstrate appropriate performance practice for a variety of styles of music.
6. Demonstrate appropriate techniques for performing on the major instrument.
Recommended Program of Study
The Field of Study in Music degree will be conferred to students who:
- complete all the degree specific courses with the letter grade of 'C' or better
- complete General Education courses with a letter grade of 'D' or better
- perform a juried final for their Applied Lessons each of the four semesters
- complete four semesters of Piano Class or Applied Piano lessons (determined by the college) with a letter grade of 'C' or better
