ITAI 2374 Robot Operating System and Platforms in Artificial Intelligence
This course gives an overview of many concepts, techniques, and algorithms in modern robotics, with emphasis on new hardware and software tools. The course gives the student the basic ideas and intuition behind modern robotics methods as well as a bit more formal understanding of how, why, and when they work.
Offered
Spring
Outcomes
- Implement a Robot in VREP (or another simulator) and run a basic ROS program to identify and confirm functionality of a single proposed sensor.
- Build a ROS application in a Jupyter notebook.
- Build a simple robot with computer vision to map its environment and perform SLAM (simultaneous location and movement).
- Build an AI system using ROS and a small mobile robot model simulated in the VREC or Gazebo environments. You will demonstrate how your programs operate in the simulator.
- Build a Nvidia “Jetbot” using ROS and AI for SLAM (simultaneous location and mapping).
- Plan the power, servo control and computing requirements for a robot.
- Build robotic systems using AI with single-board computers and a variety of sensors.
- Evaluate hardware and software tools for use in robotic applications.
