Texas College Bridge

Lamar State College Port Arthur participates in the Texas College Bridge program. With Texas College Bridge, high school juniors and seniors can take individualized, online preparatory courses in English and math. Once successfully completed, at the time of high school graduation, students can earn a TSI waiver. Visit the Texas College Bridge website for more information www.texascollegebridge.org

Students who successfully complete a Texas College Bridge (TCB) college preparatory course in accordance with Texas Education Code (TEC) §28.014 are eligible for a 24‑month waiver from TSI placement requirements in the corresponding content area. This waiver begins on the date of the student’s high school graduation and applies only to the specific subject area (Mathematics and/or English/Reading) in which the student completed the TCB course.

First-Year College-Level Course Requirements

Students who enroll with an active Texas College Bridge (TCB) waiver are required to enroll in and successfully complete the following college‑level, credit‑bearing courses during their first academic year:

Mathematics

Students must enroll in the entry‑level, college‑level mathematics course that aligns with their declared program of study or major. Approved courses that satisfy this requirement include:

Reading/Writing (English)

Students must enroll in the institution’s designated first‑year composition course that satisfies the core curriculum communication requirement:

Expiration of the TCB Exemption and Next Steps

If a student does not enroll in and/or successfully complete the required college‑level course(s) within the 24‑month waiver period, or if the exemption has expired prior to enrollment, the student must follow standard TSI placement guidelines. Next steps may include:

  1. Taking the TSI Assessment in the content area for which the exemption is no longer valid;
  2. Placement into a co-requisite or developmental education course, based on TSI scores and institutional placement policies.

Students are encouraged to meet with an academic advisor to determine the appropriate next step and ensure timely progression toward their educational goals.
