Books

Textbooks are necessary for student success. Students have several options to secure textbooks. Students can

  1. Purchase textbooks from Barnes and Noble,
  2. Participate in Seahawk Book Bundle,
  3. Receive free online textbooks for select classes (Open Educational Resources), and
  4.  Purchase textbooks from common websites.

Purchase
Students may purchase textbooks, supplies, clothing and novelty items from the virtual Barnes and Noble Bookstore. Items purchased may be picked up at LSCPA or delivered to the student.

Seahawk Book Bundle
The Seahawk Book Bundle is a rental program that allows students to receive textbooks for all classes at a standard rate of $25 per semester credit hour. If a student, for example, is registered for 10 SCH, the cost of textbooks is $250. The cost can be paid by financial aid or be paid by the student. If students enroll in a payment plan, this charge will be included in the payment plan calculations. Supplies are not included in this program and will need to be purchased separately.
Books are picked up or delivered to the student’s address on file before the first day of class and must be returned during the week of final exams. However, students may also permanently purchase the textbooks at the end of each semester.
Students are automatically enrolled in the Seahawk Book Bundle at the time of registration, however, students have the option to ‘opt-out’ of  Seahawk Book Bundle before the 12th class day. Students who opt-out of the  Seahawk Book Bundle program will be responsible for purchasing all required course materials.

Open Educational Resources
Open Educational Resources are course materials such as books and resources, which are available online at no cost to the student. Some LSCPA courses use Open Educational Resources (OER) and, therefore, do not require students to purchase a textbook.
LSCPA was also selected via a competitive application process to be a partner in Rice University’s OpenStax Institutional Partner Program, an initiative designed to minimize barriers to effective education by eliminating the need for students to purchase a textbook. Students enrolled in select courses that utilize OpenStax access their textbook online and do not purchase textbooks.

Online Purchase
Textbooks can also be purchased online from several online companies.
